The foundation for everything else
Concrete patios, pads, and steps poured right.
Every outdoor project starts with a solid base. Prime Construction pours concrete patios, porch pads, and steps across Middle Tennessee, including the elevated pad that eliminated the steps on our Thompson's Station screened room.
New concrete steps and landingEvery outdoor project starts with a solid base. Prime Construction pours concrete patios, porch pads, and steps across Middle Tennessee, including the elevated pad that eliminated the steps on our Thompson's Station screened room. We build in Gallatin, Hendersonville, Nashville, and Sumner County. A patio pad is the smallest job we take, and your free estimate gives a real quote in 1 to 2 days.
What is included
Layout and grading
We lay out the pad and grade the base so water runs away from the house, not under.
Compacted base
We prep and compact the base so the pad does not settle or crack over time.
Forms and reinforcement
Forms set square and level, with rebar or wire mesh where the load calls for it.
Pour and finish
We pour and finish the surface smooth, with the right texture for grip.
Control joints
Control joints placed where the concrete wants to crack, so it cracks where we plan.
Cure guidance
We tell you the cure time so you stay off it until it reaches full strength.
Materials and options
Patio pads
A patio pad is the smallest job we take, and it is the start of most outdoor living. We slope it away from the house so water runs off, not under. Most patios run 4 inches thick on a compacted base, sized to the furniture and the grill you want on it.
Elevated pads
We can pour a pad high enough to remove the steps from your house. Our Thompson's Station screened room sat on a new elevated concrete pad that met the door threshold, so the steps came out and the room sat level with the house.
Steps and landings
Porch steps, landings, and sidewalks poured to a comfortable rise and run, with control joints placed to control where it cracks. Good steps feel solid underfoot and shed water so they do not ice up in winter.
Walkways
Sidewalks and walkways connect the driveway to the porch, or the house to the shop. We pour them on a compacted base with control joints at the right spacing so they stay crack-free for years.
Base, prep, and curing
The base is what keeps a pad from settling. We compact it and cure the concrete so it reaches full strength instead of drying too fast and flaking. Curing right is the difference between concrete that lasts 30 years and concrete that spalls in 5.

Concrete questions
Most patio pads run 4 inches thick on a compacted base. For a pad that will carry a future screened room or patio cover, we pour it thicker and add reinforcement. We size it to the load on your estimate.
